Most of us have faced the problem when there are all circumstances to create a good photo, but the result nevertheless appears to be somewhat flat and unimpressive. The scenery is great, the sun is ready to dive into the waves or some other substance you have at your disposal, the camera in your hands is fully charge and ready to shoot a masterpiece…The masterpiece, however does not come out as something is missing from this list. This significant forgotten detail is an idea, some trick which will make the photo interesting and inspiring. Here is the list of such tricks. Though some of them are widely used ad even became clichés of photography, they still bring good results.
First, you can play with color. You can watch the Sin City movie to get inspiration and try to point out one detail of your photo with making it bright while the rest of the shot will remain black-and-white. It will make the audience to concentrate on a single detail which, in your opinion, presents the essence of the picture.
Let’s take another situation – you, some foreign country and some famous monument you are bound to imprint in your memory with the help of your camera. However, standing in front of the monument is too boring – you are small and your proud face expression is not seen, the monument is big and it is all that can be said about it. To make the photos of this kind more interesting you should play with the perspective. Try to find the position when the object looks small and you can pretend that you are holding it in your hands, or kissing it (this trick is good with Egyptian Sphinx), or stepping on the pyramids, or supporting the Tower of Pisa. Of course, such photos are obvious clichés but you can use them as the source of inspiration and think of the ideas of your own, or make them unique with the help of your face expression which should coincide with your posture.
Young me/Old me thing has become popular in 2008. Since that time, people try to recreate their childhood photos using the same landscape, posture and even similar garments. It is a good way to focus the attention on your change as the details surrounding you will remain the same.
If you are dealing with some magnificent scenery and want to capture all its beauty in your shot, you can try reflection and mirror effect. The one thing needed is the presence of water or some other reflecting surface. Seeing both real object and its reflection will produce double strong impression.
Another interesting method of creating good photos is using monochromatic photography, which is not necessarily limited to black-and white. You should choose a ruling color of your compositions and make the figures look dark on its background. It will bring some character to your picture and make it look atmospheric. Do not be afraid to experiment – make the sky yellow or paint the sea in red and new horizons of photography will open to you.
